Easy Envelope Quilt Progress

This is a quick snapshot of my current work-in-progress, my Easy Envelope Quilt.  I'm planning on 24 envelopes in all, 4 across by 6 envelopes down.  I also think I'll add a border or two, but I'll have to wait to see what I think after all of the rows are sewn together.

I'm also planning on typing up 24 poems, cut down to a 4" x 6" size, to fit into the envelopes.  Then a student can open one envelope each day and read that poem.  I think the quilt will be a fun addition to my classroom.

What current work/works-in-progress are you working on?  Inquiring minds want to know!

  1. I love this! I was in an envelope block swap years ago, and still haven't made up the blocks into anything because I couldn't decide what to do. I really like the sash and post set you're using, with the bright post. That might work for mine too, although the blocks I have are such a wide range of fabrics. Hmmmm... Thanks for the inspiration!

  4. It's darling! Love the different colored cornerstones you are doing.

I am working on an airplane quilt that is long over due for a baby that was born in July. I have 25 airplanes made and now need to do the sashing and cornerstones. I am thinking of doing my cornerstones in different colors too. My background is a mottled light blue for sky and the planes are 5 different colors..5 of each. It is going to end up much bigger than a baby blanket but that is okay. The baby's father is a pilot. It is kind of confusing...the baby recently born is not receiving it but his older brother is. The older brother already has a quilt I made him that he will need to pass on to his new brother. LOL! The first baby had to fly every week to work with his mommy..so..he is our fly baby. The babies are 14 months apart.

  5. Margaret D. is unable to make a comment on the blog, so she e-mailed me her comment: "I LOVE it! To be able to excite a child's curiosity and practice reading - WONDERFUL! Anything to get young people reading, while they don't think they are reading." - Margaret D (a support for learning teacher - nearly retired and waiting for the October snowman, so I can leave my school with another little Christmas gift for the Pupil Support department - my first one is an Advent Calendar - even the big 17 year olds want to see what is in the pocket for them each day of Advent!

  6. What size are the envelopes? I see as an Advent calendar. I need to get one made quickly--before Thanksgiving and send to oldest Grand who is in college. I collect 25 things for 5 grands. I put in envelopes and number each with the initial of the grand.
I just finished a pillow sham and will work on cushion for chair--college chair.

  7. I love poems delivered in any fashion, and that is a great way to do it. Some day I hope those kids know how lucky they are to have a teacher who engages them in so many ways.
Now I need to end my computer break and get back to the banner - with - a - deadline!

  8. I love the look of this quilt. It would be a good idea for on my workroom wall.

I am just quilting a double Irish chain quilt for my nieces 25th birthday on Saturday.
It's in blue, white & yellow sunflowers.

  9. The envelope/poem quilt is a great idea! I'm working on a flannel rag baby quilt, a simple flannel quilt, and a Pokey Little Puppy soft book for our grandbaby.
