Country Farm Quilt Block |
For the month of July, the Quilters' Book Club is reading and discussing Wedding Ring by Emilie Richards. It's the first book in her Shenandoah Album Series. We'd love to have you join us! Check the book out of your local library and begin reading!
The story takes place one summer at Helen Henry's farm house on Fitch Crossing Road outside the small town of Toms Brook in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. There are twin maples in the front yard of the farm house.

Never lived or visited there. I just got the book from my local library and am starting it today. Blessings and smiles, Emilou :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Susan! I've been hit and miss on reading your posts!! Plus I haven't even started this book yet. Our local library didn't have it, so I'm going to order it on half.com. I was wondering if you have picked the book for next month. Sometimes I can get reduced shipping if I order more than one book, and since we are almost to next month (where does the time go!!!) I thought I could order two and then get in on the end of the discussions!!
ReplyDeleteBlessings
Though I have never been to the Shenandoah Valley, I can picture it well in my mind, having crossed the eastern mountains many times. I am enjoying such a nice fat book and many bits and pieces that are not so far from my own experience.
ReplyDeleteI have never visited the Shenandoah Valley but have visited the area near & hope to go back that way & visit the valley. I'm just a few pages away from the end of the book, have purchased another one of the author's books & look forward to beginning that book.
ReplyDeleteI loved the descriptions of the different quilts in the book, especially the giant Dahlia.
ReplyDeleteYes, I have visited the Shenandoah Valley when we visited my sister-in-law in Virginia and went to Harper's Ferry. My impression was of a slow, green edged river that made the area so tranquil one wanted to remain in that peaceful place. Ms Richards is very good at setting scenes.
ReplyDeleteI lived in the Shenandoah Valley (White Post, VA) for 13 years before moving here to TN. An easy commute into DC or MD to work and peaceful living in the valley.
ReplyDeleteI read the book when it first came out, but am reading it again. We visit the Valley when traveling to VA. It seems very laid back and with the trees, very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteNever lived there. Love the fabric combination in your maple leaf block.
ReplyDeleteNever lived there and not sure if I have passed through or not on my Way to New Jersey and New York. LOL!
ReplyDeleteBoth of the blocks are very nice. I have wanted to make a maple leaf quilt for a long time now. Not sure when that will happen though.
My book club, The Buzzy Beez, also chose this book as our current selection! We will meet next week for our discussion and a "show and tell" of Wedding Ring quilts from our members' collections. The setting of the book is very different from our location in central Louisiana, but the description of the hot summer weather was familiar!
