Grandmother's Choice Quilt Block |
For the month of June, the Quilters' Book Club is reading and discussing The Lover's Knot by Clare O'Donohue. We'd love to have you join us! Check the book out of your local library, and you're in!
The main character in the book is twenty-six-year-old Nell Fitzgerald. At the beginning of the book, her fiancé calls off their wedding. She flees to her grandmother's home for comfort. If you'd like to create a quilt block that represents them, I found some free patterns on the internet:

I'm a dog person. We have a yellow lab named Gracie.
ReplyDeleteI love both, but we have a orange tiger cat who loves to me sew. I finished reading Lover's Knot last night - I was not surprised by the "who-dun-it" - I thought it that person from the beginning!!! LOL Can't wait to read some more of her books. I just started reading the new Marie Bostwick book last night - it's really good too.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm a neither right now. I grew up with cats and dogs, then got married and moved to a farm where we had both. The last dog we had was an Airedale Terrier named Maxwell Smart. He was a dandy, and we all loved him. After Max died, we had moved to town where it's not as easy to keep a dog. Also, we're retired now and are away from home a lot. I'm getting the book tomorrow - just found this site over the weekend. I love cozy mysteries!
ReplyDeleteI've had lots of dogs and cats growing up, and there's nothing like a good, faithful ole dog by ones side. I read the book the day I got it and have just finished the second one in the series. I must say I preferred the second one, maybe because I am more familiar with the characters now and they seem like they could live right down the road and I could be part of their Friday night group. I really appreciate all your links to patterns! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteDog person hands down!
ReplyDeleteI have the book on order from the library and am patiently waiting for a call any day now that they have it.

I am a dog person. I love the blue heeler (aka Australian Cattle Dog) breed. "Dirk " just came and checked on me. I have finished the book and it is very well worth reading. Thanks for the book selection and quilt blocks. Blessings and smiles, Emilou :-)
ReplyDeleteI am both. I always had a cat for about 45 years then developed an allergy to their dander. Now I have a dog. He`s a hoot. But I still love cats.
ReplyDeleteI'm a cat person, although at the moment we have neither :) Maybe when we get our own place instead of renting we might get a cat :) I currently have the sweetest house bunny ever :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a cat person. We have a calico that my daughter brought home from Japan (she prefers to live with me) and a Russian Blue who literally bounces off walls!! Also numerous yard cats that seem to gravitate here from neglectful neighbors. My daughter has a Black Lab that we are very fond of. She's a good dog. I have finished this month's book, and enjoyed it. I am now reading the 2nd one of the series.
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to remember where I saw the cat/dog pattern. I have a great grandson and a great grand daughter next month and I thought one of each would be cute.
ReplyDeleteI am a lover of both. I have had dogs and cats all of my life. Right now, I have a two small dogs and a cat. Love them all! I will have to do a interlibrary loan in order to read The Lover's Knot...soon, I hope. :)
ReplyDeleteDog lover!
ReplyDeleteMy 2 Aussies(Australian Shepherds) are my sewing room assistants. It's a lofty title. We are still working on the job descriptions. So until I get an exact task list, they sleep on the provided dog bed, waking periodically to nudge me with their noses for an ear scratch and a head pat.
I suppose herding the dust bunnies that seem to proliferate in my sewing room could be in their job description, but I digress.
I have both. But if I had to choose, it would be a black lab lover. My black lab Buster is the best dog I have ever had, even growing up as a child.
ReplyDeleteWe have neither. Our kids have both--one has two cats which we babysit each year and see each week and one has a tiny dog which we see about four times a year. We had cats when the boys were young, but decided that we are gone too much to have either. I had an English bulldog when I was young.
ReplyDeleteI love all animals. For most of my life we have had cats, but for the first time in my life we don't have any now. Life has changed & our lifestyle is no longer suitable to have them. The furry love of my life now is a 12 year old Miniature Fox Terrier ( or Tenterfield Terrier, as they now call them here in Australia). She is my constant companion these days.
ReplyDeleteI am a dog person. The only time in my life that I didn't have at least one dog, was for the first 6 months after I moved out of my parents house. We usually keep 2 dogs, one for each hand.
ReplyDeleteI am a dog lover. I grew up with German Shepherds and a variety of dog pound mutts. We now have two black and white dogs. One is a dachshund and one a chihuahua/rat terrier mix (rescue).
ReplyDeleteI grew up on a farm (actually a turkey farm) so we had plenty of cats and dogs (and rabbits). We used to look forward to going into town with mother since it was the most excitement we usually got that week (if we stayed out of trouble) but if we ran across a stray dog...we stayed home and took care of it. Two dog stories stand out in my memory. The first is when it would rain, one of the dogs would round up the cats and herd them into his dog house and then stand out in the rain in the doorway so the cats would stay dry.
ReplyDeleteThe second story is when we had a standard poodle which would pull up those large stakes in the ground that his chain was attached to. One day the turkeys got out of their holding pen (my dad worked for the turkey farm and we lived on one of the farms) and while mom called it in, my sister and I were to start to shoo them back towards the pen. Unfortunately the standard poodle wanted to get into the fun and pulled up his stake so that he was also loose. Have you ever tried to round up both turkeys and a standard poodle at the same time? Mom finally stopped laughing when the poodle trampled her flower bed and helped us round up everybody. My sister was 10 at the time and I was six. The poodle was larger than I was! hehehe
I finished The Lover's Knot, so, of course, I'm on to the second book in the series The Drunkard's Path. I love it when I find a series I enjoy, so thanks for choosing this one.
ReplyDeleteI am a pet lover ... at this time #1 pet is a dog. (Nikko made me say that) #2 pet is a pied canary, thus ... no cats. I have had more than enough of both at one time or another. I do like the fact that dogs can be trained to sit and lie down and stay off the furniture. When taking them for walks, you get lots of exercise and the dog rakes in the friends. Cats might be better to manage if you are away a lot but they tend to take over the place.
