ReplyDeleteWhen we first moved here, I'd see a humming bird on occasion. I tried putting out a feeder for them, but, not one humming bird came to drink the nectar. I haven't seen one in the past few years.
ReplyDeleteYes we have..we had 3 winter over this past year...the biggest group of migration went through this past week...counted up to 12 at every feeder at one time...now we look like we have 5-7 every evening buzzing our front porch...;-)
ReplyDeleteWe have hummingbirds all year in our backyard here in Phoenix. We have 2 feeders that are filled every 2 days. We even have a resident woodpecker that lets us know the feeders are empty by knocking on the feeders! The woodpecker resides in a saquero cactus on the other side of our fence. I think the hummingbirds are in the neighbors tall tree next door.

ReplyDeleteI enjoy hummers when I visit my kids in the States. It is a shame we don't get them in Japan because there are flowers here they would really love. We do get a Sphinx moth that acts like a hummingbird. One has a fan-shaped tail and a rust-colored belly band.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a hummingbird feeder and I haven't seen any this year, but I heard someone else say today that they had seen their first one. I always remember the wonderful hummingbirds outside your window, Susan.

ReplyDeleteWe have year-round residents of the Rufous variety. We feed them junk food (sugar water) when nothing is in bloom. Camano Island, Washington.
ReplyDeleteNo hummingbirds yet! But I have seen many of our feathered friends returning from their southern vacation. It has been a bit chilly here, yet. I love the cheerful sounds of the songbirds and the bright spring colors at the feeders!

ReplyDeleteI have heard no whirr of the wings or sharp staccoto calls that annouce the arrival of Hummers in Norther NJ. I am hoping when I get to far north WIscocnsin in a few weeks my feeder will help a few recover from their long commute. In Wsic they are fearless and often land on my hand or head when I take feeder to clean and refill or bring back out. I love the two books about them over wintering in a green house.
ReplyDeleteMy nightstand has dustbunnies right now but my reading chair has my Bird books.....spring migration always brings surprises with the cold and winds this year. and I have a few in my yard and woods that have me scratching my head.
Havn't seen one yet but am going to have to clean up their feeder and refill it
ReplyDeleteMy brother live south of us--Bloomington and he has his first hummingbird. I have my feed out since they will be here shortly. I love to watch them. At our cabin, they come right up to me to tell me they need feed!!
ReplyDeleteIn South Vancouver Island, we have year round Anna's Hummingbirds, not as many as later, but a joy to see at the feeders.
ReplyDeleteHummingbirds are my favorite. I would sit up with my grandma at her cabin and watch the hummingbirds come feed at the feeders. We could watch them for hours. So now I do out outside my picture window in my living room.

ReplyDeleteNo hummingbirds here in England although we do see a hummingbird hawk moth some years. Is it right that you put out honeyed water for the hummingbirds? I did see goldfinches in the garden recently which are really pretty and I have a robin who follows me around when I'm gardening, but no hummingbirds.
