Do you love to quilt AND love to read? I invite you to join the free, online Quilters' Book Club. Each month, we read a book, discuss it through comments on my blog posts, and then make a quilt block to represent that book. I research several potential blocks to go with the book's themes, setting, main characters, and events. And I find the patterns free on the internet, making it easy for everyone to access. Each member can choose the block or blocks they'd like to make.
To join, become a follower of my blog so you won't miss any blog post. To make it super convenient, you can also sign up for my posts to be delivered right to you via email. It is never too late to join and begin reading and sewing along with us.
Our book to read and discuss during August 2013 is Between Heaven and Texas by Marie Bostwick. Back in March, we read her book A Single Thread, the first book of the Cobbled Court Quilts Series. Our new book is a prequel to that. Get the book from your local library or bookstore and join us!
“In
this luminous prequel to her beloved Cobbled Court Quilts series, New York
Times bestselling author Marie Bostwick takes readers into the heart of a
small Texas town and the soul of a woman who discovers her
destiny there.
”Welcome to Too Much—where the women are strong-willed and the men are handsome yet shiftless. Ever since Mary Dell Templeton and her twin sister Lydia Dale were children, their Aunt Velvet has warned them away from local boys. But it’s well known that the females in Mary Dell’s family have two traits in common—superior sewing skills and a fatal weakness for men.
”While Lydia Dale grows up petite and pretty, Mary Dell just keeps growing. Tall, smart, and sassy, she is determined to one day turn her love of sewing into a business. Meanwhile, she’ll settle for raising babies with her new husband, Donny. But that dream proves elusive too, until finally, Mary Dell gets the son she always wanted—a child as different as he is wonderful. And as Mary Dell is forced to reconsider what truly matters in her family and her marriage, she begins to piece together a life that, like the colorful quilts she creates, will prove vibrant, rich, and absolutely unforgettable.” from Marie Bostwick's website

ReplyDeleteHi Susan!! This is my second book by Marie!! I read it earlier in the year, when a friend and I went to her book signing at a Hastings near my hometown! Marie is a hoot and this book is a great read!!! I'm looking forward to the discussion!!
ReplyDeleteBlessings
I'm so excited that I may be the winner of a book from one of my favorite authors! Hope you are not referring to another Michele. I tried to email my address to the link you gave above but was notified that it was not delivered. I've tried to send it again and have my fingers crossed that the email is delivered.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Linda. I'm enjoying the selections in the book club, the other quilts you have shared and feeding my soul with beautiful pictures from your walks in my beloved Colorado!
You are the winner, Michele! I'm not sure why the link didn't work. Congratulations!
DeleteI forgot to respond to the question in my earlier post. I own signed additions of all the Cobbled Court series books by Marie Bostwick. I met her several years ago at my local quilt shop and I love her as a person as much as I love reading her books! I enjoy the characters in this series and I am anxiously awaiting her next book & the opportunity to visit again with her characters.
ReplyDeleteI also tried to email by clicking the address. The computer picked up too many letters and then bounced. Then I copied and pasted; hopefully it went through. I have read all of the Cobbled Court series by Marie Bostwick. Loved reading about Mary Dell and her son. Marie must do a lot of research.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for the book.
I have only read her book previously listed in the book club. It was a lovely book that I really enjoyed. I have downloaded this book onto my Kindle and hope to start reading it this weekend. All the other books I have bought on Amazon.co.uk, most of them costing 1p plus postage!
ReplyDeleteHi Everybody! Susan, I'm so happy you'll be discussing BETWEEN HEAVEN AND TEXAS this month. I really love this book. I don't think I'd change a word of it. Hope all of you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. if you have questions as we go along, let me know and I'll try to answer.
ReplyDeleteThank you for adding your personal touch to Susan's online book club. You really make reading your book a special event!
DeleteSo excited to find this. Just finished the March book last night and this is on the top of the stack to read.
ReplyDeleteI have read all of her books several times, and just finished this one.I enjoyed it just as much as the others, and hope there will be many more, Helen
ReplyDeleteI've requested a copy from my library. This is the first one by this author.
ReplyDeleteI very much enjoyed the March selection and downloaded the current book to my kindle fire when you first announced it for this month. I have waited to start reading it tho. I am trying to finish the Quilter's Apprentice an earlier selection that somehow got away from me, before I start this one. Should start Marie's book on Monday or Tues.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Susan for starting this book club for us.
DJ
Hi Everyone.
ReplyDeleteI just joined the club and have already read this month's selection. Marie Bostwick visited one of our local quilt shops, JEllen's, last year and I got an autographed copy of Between Heaven and Texas at that time. I have also read and enjoyed the books in Marie's Cobbled Court series.
I'm looking forward to the discussion. One question: when do we find out what block we will make?
Thanks! Mary Ann
I've "read" audio books of first three books Cobbled Court books. I'm listening to the fourth right now.
ReplyDeleteI have read this book already - and thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope there will be a another "prequel" to share more of Mary Dell's story before Cobblestone Quilts series, or "sequel" to this novel... depending on how you think about it :D
ReplyDeleteI'm currently reading the 5th CQ novel - "Ties That Bind"
Yes this is the, well, will be the first one I will be reading of hers. I just ordered this one and the one from March and will now wait patiently for them to arrive.
ReplyDeleteLove the Cobbled Court series!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks to this book club, I read (and enjoyed) A Single Thread a few months ago. I'm looking forward to reading this one - especially since the author is an active participant!
ReplyDeleteI've held off reading this book until this month. I'll start it later this week and keep up. I've read 2 of Marie Bostwick's books so far, but, I own more than that.
ReplyDeleteAlways love good books.
ReplyDeleteI have only read her other book that was listed for the book club but know that I will read more. I love how this one started (I just downloaded it via Amazon Kindle Store - under $10) and LOVE how it starts. It grabs you right from the start.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this book and Marie's other books also. I love books where the characters continue, it feels as though they are friends by the time you get to the end of a series.
ReplyDeleteI have read and loved each and every one of my friend Marie's books. She has a real knack for creating characters that are so real and who become friends. Hoping for more in Cobbled Court and more with Mary Dell who I adore. Highly recommend all of them. In fact I reread the Cobbled Court series while waiting for Between Heaven and Texas. Great to see all my old friends again.
ReplyDeleteThis will be my first book to read, I'm sure I'll love it!
ReplyDeleteThis is the first of her books I have read. It is not the last. I have realy enjoyed this book
ReplyDeleteI got my book today. Thanks so much.
