Christian Cross Quilt Block and a Song for Sunday

Christian Cross Quilt Block Pattern Instructions
The Old Rugged Cross

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suffering and shame.
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best,
For a world of lost sinners was slain.

Refrain:
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.

Oh, that old rugged cross, so despised by the world
Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God left his glory above
To bear it to dark Calvary.

To the old rugged cross I will ever be true,
Its shame and reproach gladly bear;
Then He'll call me someday to my home far away,
Where His glory forever I'll share.

What's the name of one hymn you sang in church this morning?
Inquiring minds want to know!

  1. We sang several new songs in church this morning. I don't know the names of any of them! I sang "Jesus Loves Me" with my children's church kids.

  2. Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah. Since I am a tenor, I sit with the men and they just love the last three bars, booming out the three notes while the singers hold that whole note. The choir sang Thine is the Glory for the introit. We also sang Jesus Loves me when the children came for their message, and Let us Break Bread Together.

  3. "Did You Think To Pray?" It looks like a granny square. One you could use with 1 1/2" or 2 1/2" squares.

  4. No hymn's, only chorus'. I used to sing the Old Rugged Cross with my father. It is one of my favorites, and always reminds me of him.

  8. The Old Rugged Cross is such a favourite here, especially with the older members of the community, and it is often sung at funerals. I didn't go to church this morning but enjoyed listening to morning service on the radio and singing along to Crown him with many crowns.

  9. We had the choir from our local Christian high school joining us, so our congregation didn't do a lot of singing - but one that we sang is "When in Our Music God is Glorified" - it's not really familiar, but it's beautiful!
