Quilters' Book Club March Selection and Winners!

Do you love to quilt AND love to read?  I invite you to join the free, online Quilters' Book Club.  Each month, we read a book, discuss it through comments on my blog posts, and then make a quilt block to represent that book.  I research several potential blocks to go with the book's themes, setting, main characters, and events.  And I find the patterns free on the internet, making it easy for everyone to access.  Each member can choose the block or blocks they'd like to make.

To join, become a follower of my blog so you won't miss any blog post.  To make it super convenient, you can also sign up for my posts to be delivered right to you via email.  It is never too late to join and begin reading and sewing along with us.

Our book to read and discuss during March 2014 is A Drunkard's Path by Clare O'Donohue.  Get the book from your local library or bookstore and join us!  It's also available on Kindle right here.

Nell Fitzgerald has put her broken engagement behind her and is starting to love her charming adopted home, Archers Rest.  She is finishing her first quilt and preparing for her first date with Police Chief Jesse Dewalt.  When Jesse stands her up, however, it turns out he has a good reason - the body of a young woman has been discovered nearby.

Jesse begs Nell to keep out of the investigation, and she tries to stay occupied by taking a drawing class from the famous artist Oliver White.  But once a second body - this time a fellow student - is found outside her grandmother's home, Nell's taste for sleuthing gets the best of her.  She enlists the aid of her quilting circle to help patch together clues and follow a path of evidence that seems to lead to her professor.

  1. I check out more non-fiction books from the library than any other kind-cookbooks, quilting books, how-to books, etc. When I want to read a book cover to cover I enjoy historical fiction, biographies or memoirs, and cosy mysteries. Right now I'm enjoying re-reading the Ann of Green Gables Books which don't fit any of those categories!

  2. I love to read mystery books, but lately have been reading more historical fictions. I also watch the historical shows more while I sew.

  3. Count me in - I love reading mystery series (and have just published my first fiction - The Quilter's Quarters - at Amazon.)

I'll download the Kindle version of Clare O'Donahue's A Drunkard's Path tomorrow and start reading it soon after. Thanks for hosting this book/quilt block group!

  5. Finished the book today. I love light mysteries which is what I call Clare's books. I also love historical novels. Some biographies catch my eye.

  6. It would be hard to say what I like to read best. I often select Young Adult fiction because you have to have a good plot and characters for kids to enjoy the read and you also don't have to sort through "trash" (sex and cussing etc,) I like historical fiction and mysteries in combination. Probably science fiction is my least favorite.

  7. I love light mysteries - "cozies" to read before bed. I also enjoy historical fiction and some nonfiction, too.

  9. I love mysteries, both cozies and romantic suspense. Also romances, historical, westerns and biographies. Well, just about anything but sci fi, horror and fantasies. I am really looking forward to reading my new book, "Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker". Thank you Susan and especially Plume Books.

  10. I was just reading your post on Call the Midwife. I loved them too although I would never do a marathon anything, lol! The books are wonderful. I think you would enjoy them. Very sad circumstances so close to our own times. My favorite Brit com of all time is an old one called Good Neighbors! I got them on PBS and then my library bought them so I can indulge whenever I want. No realism in it at all . Totally fiction, lol. Mary Anne

  11. Was looking for advice on how to do "Night and Day" for my Farmer's Wife quilt. I love reading books that include quilting and the thought of making a block to go along with a book sounds like so much fun. I can't believe that March's book is A Drunkard's Path since that is one of my favorite quilt blocks. Can't wait to see more!
