Cotton Boll Quilt Block |
This month, the Quilters' Book Club is reading State Fair: a Benni Harper Mystery by Earlene Fowler. Do you love to quilt AND love to read? Then I invite you to join us. Each month, we read a book, discuss it through comments on my blog posts, and then make a quilt block to represent that book. I research several potential blocks to go with the book's themes, setting, main characters, and events. And I find the patterns free on the internet, making it easy for everyone to access. Each member can choose the block or blocks they'd like to make.
To join, become a follower of my blog so you won't miss any blog post. To make it super convenient, you can also sign up for my posts to be delivered right to you via email. It is never too late to join and begin reading and sewing along with us. Grab the book from your nearest library or bookstore and begin reading!
I spent my teenage years in Dallas. Every fall, we had an official day off from school - known as Fair Day - so we could attend the State Fair in

We have what are called " Town Shows". Most towns have their own show. Especially small country towns.
ReplyDeleteYour cotton candy is what we call " fairy floss" . It is very popular. I love it.
Popcorn machines are also popular
I love the carmel apple covered with nuts...
ReplyDeleteMinnesota State Fair is my fair-one of the largest in the country. My favorite food at the fair is a raspberry malt from the dairy building. As kids our lunch was a turkey burger from the turkey producers and all the milk we could drink for a dime from the Dairy Producers. Now the milk is a dollar!
ReplyDeleteIt has been so long since I went to a fair, I can't remember if I ate anything.(unlike my husband who can remember every meal he ever ate, and with whom he ate it, where and what courses were served).(Of course, he can't remember where he put his glasses five minutes ago).

ReplyDeleteHaving lived my entire life in a suburban environment, fairs have not played a large part in my life. My first experience was when I was first married and we visited the Canfield (OH) Fair. After that we regularly went to a local Ox Roast sponsored by the Kiwanis. Certainly not a fair but they did their best to provide those enticing (and not too good for you) foods. The last three years my grandaughter has played in the All Ohio State Fair Band in Columbus so we have made the trip to visit her and throughly enjoyed seeing many of the sites Earlene mentions in State Fair. Food? Whether it's a local affair or the Ohio State Fair I always seek out the funnel cake stand. Just can't pass up that fried dough smothered in powdered sugar!!
I still love cotton candy, but I really find it hard to pass up a fresh, hot funnel cake!
ReplyDeleteI love funnel cakes but at one of our local craft shows there is a food truck that serves the best Suzy Q curly fries. It's one big block of freshly cut curls that are crunchy on the out side while the inner fries are all soft and tender. Good thing the fair is this next weekend as I'm now craving them.
ReplyDeleteI love cotton candy, but what we call 'elephant ears' would be my fave. I haven't been to a fair in years. And it's probably just as well, cuz my hips don't need any of that yummy fair food. LOL

I love funnel cakes and beaver tails which are the same as elephant ears. Fattening and delicious

I love the fresh squeezed lemonade and corn dogs!
ReplyDeleteThe Texas State Fair is now open in Dallas. I love the funnel cakes and corny dogs, however with the large amount of new fried food intros each year, I no longer seem to buy my old favorites. The food has become so expensive that I only buy a few items from the new food entries of the current year. I just had a corny dog at First Monday Trade Day in Canton so I got my yearly corny dog fix.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is funnel cakes. I have never liked cotton candy, but the fairs always have great food.
ReplyDeleteFoot long coney dogs, by Big Tex at the State Fair! I remember watching them dip them in the cornmeal before frying them. Oh yea, with lots of mustard!
ReplyDeleteWell, our county fair is pretty small and not a lot of choices of food, but my favorite is Tiger Ears--better known as scones. They are large plate-sized hunks of fried dough dripping with honey butter! Yum!
ReplyDeleteMy book just arrived...YAY! Oh how hungry I was getting when they were talking about the different fair food. My favorites are cotton candy and corn dogs! I can eat those any and every time.
ReplyDeleteTaffy was my favorite when young. Now I don't buy anything as most are too high in calories or fat.
ReplyDeleteElephant Ear, hands down!!! and other assorted chocolate dipped items!
ReplyDeleteFunnel cakes!
