Today is National Read a Book Day. In honor of the day, the Quilters' Book Club asks:
1. What book/books are you currently reading/listening to?
2. What is your favorite genre (type) of book to read - historical fiction, romance, fantasy, science fiction, mystery, Christian fiction, nonfiction, realistic fiction, biography, poetry, etc.?
3. Who is your favorite author/authors?

1. I just finished listening to Sunflower by Evans Wonderful; he is a wonderful writer.
ReplyDelete2. It is easier to tell what I don't like--fantasy, science fiction are the least favorite with poetry next. Poetry has to be read out loud, I think. I like realistic, and Christian fiction.
3. Debbie Macomber, Laura Childs, Jennifer jennifer Chiaverini and many many others are favorites.
I'm reading canning cookbooks to discover recipes to use with my abundance of tomatoes. I'm also reading the Kindle version of After the Fall by Craig DeMartino.
ReplyDeleteCurrently reading "Wool" it is a good story..dystopian society book. I like anything I am entertained by and learn from. Favorite authors include Isabel Allende, Jeanette Winterson, Bonnie Hunter..
ReplyDeleteI just finished a book called Private Games by Patterson and Mark Sullivan and started another one "Guilty Wives" by James Patterson and David Ellis. I like murder mysterious and any kind of quilt related book! My favorite author...you may have already guessed....James Patterson!

DeleteI'm currently reading "The Fallen" book 2. It was a free book and I'm finding it very interesting. My favorite genre is historical fiction and I can't really name my favorite author(s) in the space here!! But I would say, Jennifer Chiaverini, Marie Bostwick, The Thoenes, Lauraine Snelling to name a few.

I am currently reading, "The Clash of the Kings" which is the second in the series of the Game of Thrones books. It is fantasy and I am enjoying it. I usually don't read this kind of stuff. I have enjoyed the show and wanted to get more in depth with the books. My son will also read them and he also watches the show. Gives us something to talk about.
ReplyDeleteI normally read mysteries and non fiction for the most part. But, I do enjoy reading all sorts of genre's.
My favorite author is a mystery writer by the name of Michael Connelly. Love the way he writes and tells a story.
Romance, light reading, any book with quilting in the story. Just finished Maricle by Danielle Steel.

DeleteMy favourite book is whatever I am reading!! I have a personal library of over 300 book, which I love to reread, and am always prowling the library. I am rereading the Goodbye Quilt and love the Cobble Court series
ReplyDeleteI am the same way-the book I am reading is the one I love at the time. I must say I have gotten to the point where I have to write down what I read or I will quickly forget it and buy it again.
DeleteSince I finished our book for this month... (it was a pretty short book and I had lots of travel time to fill), I have begun "The Scarlet Thread" by Francine Rivers. I think historical fiction with a touch of mystery might be my favorite read. Favorite authors change over time and when I find one I like, I tend to snatch up every book I can find ..I have done that with Alexander McCall Smith, Lloyd Alexander, Tony Hillerman, Anne Perry, and probably every children's author who has ever won an award.
ReplyDelete1. Reading "Elizabeth Roseberry Mitchell's Graveyard Quilt," by Linda Otto Lipsett. The quilt was made in Kentucky/Ohio in the 1840's. It features a center "graveyard" with room for "coffins," which are waiting in the border to be moved to the center. Linda researched Elizabeth's family (generations before and after).

My top picks for fall: "The Impersonator," by Mary Miley (winner of St. Martins/Minotaur First Crime Novel Award); "On the Rocks," by Sue Hallgarth (mystery novel featuring Willa Cather and Edith Lewis); "A Wilder Rose," by Susan Wittig Albert (novel about Rose Wilder Lane & Laura Ingalls Wilder).
Nann, I just ordered Elizabeth Roseberry Mitchell's Graveyard Quilt from my library thanks to you. It sounds interesting!
Delete1. I am currently reading Looking for Me by Beth Hoffman. It was a Rapid Read at my library (I can only check it out for 7 days), and it looked interesting. I'm really enjoying it so far. I just finished listening to Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller.
ReplyDelete2. I would say my favorite genres are historical fiction and realistic fiction. I love children's poetry and read a lot of children's books as well. I always think I don't like mysteries, but I love the #1 Ladies Detective Agency Series as well as the Cat Who Mysteries (but I have to listen to those because I love the reader!)
3. My favorite authors include Jan Karon (Mitford Series) and Alexander McCall-Smith (The #1 Ladies Detective Agency Series).

ReplyDeleteI am reading Learning to Swim by Sara J. Henry and had to make myself put it down! I just finished 44 Scotland Street by Alexander McCall Smith and The Prodigal summer by Barbara Kingsolver. I look through all the comments here for recommendations for future reading! Mary Anne
ReplyDeleteI enjoy so many authors I'd say my favorite is the one who wrote the book I just finished. I do not read science fiction or horror. Otherwise, I enjoy just about anything history, clean romance, suspense and mysteries, etc.. I enjoy series like those of Lee Child's Reacher; James Patterson's Alex Cross and also his series that begin with a number like 4th of July; and Debbie McComber Cedar Cove books, she has a collection written with house addresses and another about Rose Inn. I also like Alex Kava and am just starting to read Laura Landon books, both are Nebraska authors. My favorites are so many it is hard to choose. This week I finished The Lightkeeper, Susan Wiggs, The Inn at Rose Harbor bu Debbie McComber, and currently When Love is Enough by Laura Landon.

ReplyDelete1. Because I'm going to the Jane Austen Society of North America annual general meeting later this month, I'm listening to lots of Jane Austen books that are about her, her books, and anything related to her. I just finished "The Real Jane Austen, A Life In Small Things" by Paula Byrne; "What Matters in Jane Austen", and Jane's Fame".
2. I like to read non-fiction more than fiction including biography. I love to watch English murder mysteries, but not to read them so much. And science fiction is not ever on my list. I read the newspaper everyday (WSJ), which takes too much of my time, but that's not a book.

I love rereading many different genres, today's fiction rarely catches me, but I love the quilt related fiction which has been recently much more prevalent and now own much of it.
ReplyDeleteI just finished Debbie Macomber's new book-Rose Harbor in Bloom. I read romance and mysteries-and I love books that have quilting in the theme. Hence my love of Marie Bostwick.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently reading Death Al Dente by Leslie Budewitz. Also starting to read The Goodbye Quilt by Susan Wiggs for this group. I normally read mysteries. I have several authors I like, but my absolute favorite is Marcia Muller.

I am currently reading Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker by Jennifer Chiaverini. It's our September Book Club selection. Can't wait to share some of Chiaverini's other books with my non-quilting friends when we meet for discussion.
ReplyDeleteI find that I'm reading more now than ever before! Historical fiction seems to be the genre that attracts me most; World War II is one of my favorite periods although I'm finding the Civil War an interesting time.
Favorite author? I always enjoy Jodi Picoult's books. I know, usually not historical fiction but recently I read her novel, The Storyteller. It was a perfect companion to another historical fiction book, Once We Were Brothers by Ronald Balson. I'm always impressed by the extensive research Picoult does before writing!
