Brotherly Love Quilt Block on National Sibling Day

Brotherly Love Quilt Block Pattern Information

I grew up with two sisters and no brothers - in other words, a "girl" family.  In contrast, there are 19 males and only 4 females in three generations of my husband's family.  All that testosterone took some getting used to when I first married into that family!

But then . . .

I had three

 wonderful sons

and I can't imagine anything else!

Did you know that wild turkey brothers are lifelong companions?
That's what I hope for my sons, too.

Do you have siblings?  Inquiring minds want to know!  By commenting, you'll be entering this month's give-away of Marie Bostwick's newest book APART AT THE SEAMS, coming out the end of this month.  Three lucky people will each win a copy, courtesy of Kensington Publishing!  If you are reading this via email, you must click on the title of my blog post to be able to comment and read the comments of others.  The winner will be announced on May 1.

  2. There were four of us in my family. My sister (who is really my cousin but we adopted her), and two brothers. It worked out well. My father died when I was in 5th grade and I"m the youngest. I grew up in a matriarchal family. My brothers were 17 and 14 years older me so I wasn't around them that much to bother them when they were dating or whatever. Have a TON of stories though about the times we were together. I find it much more interesting for my mom's side of the family. She was the only girl with 4 brothers. Her favorites were the twins who taught her to be rebellious in her own way and be what would have been called a tom boy. She could shoot almost better than they as well as clean fish faster etc. I also have a ton of stories from her about growing up with them.

  3. I had 6 brothers and then had 4 sons so I definitely understand testosterone. LOL My mother came from a family of all girls (5) and wanted granddaughters. She had to wait quite a few years before one of my brothers finally had a girl. I now have 6 grandsons and only 3 granddaughters.

  4. I had 1 sister and 3 brothers, all younger. We were typical siblings - snarling one minute and fiercely loyal to each other the next. We still "look after" each other even though we are not as close as we once were. My oldest grandchild is a girl and then we had a string of 5 boys before the next girl was born. I guess we have a pretty balanced mix in my family!

  6. I had two brothers and a sister. There were three years between each child, so my elder brother and younger brother were nine years apart.

  7. I have two younger sisters. There are 4 years between my middle sister & I. I am 5 years older than my youngest sister.

The relationship between my middle sister and I has always been a bit strained. . . . and I have no idea why. My youngest sister and I have always gotten along much better. . . . . and the two younger ones don't get along much either.

I am thinking that since there was only 13 months difference in them there was alot of competition between them for friends ("you can't be her friend because she was MY friend first", etc.) and everything else.

I know that should there be a problem we will be there for each other. . . . . but I know I can always show up at my youngest sister's house without warning & there won't be a problem.

I feel like I have to make an appointment to go to my middle sister's house. . . . and she lives the closest to me.

    Family. . . . . . . go figure!

  9. I had 2 brothers and 1 sister, but my sister died about 10 years ago from liver cancer. I really miss her. But it is nice to have my brothers. I have three children 2 girls and 1 boy, I am hoping that they remain close as they are grown and begin having families. I decided I couldn't begin Marie's 2nd book without reading her first. I have finished the first and look forward to reading the 2nd.

  11. I have one brother and 2 sisters . I don't live by any of them. We do try to get together once a year for weddings or baby births. Things like that. I really miss being with them more often. I have talked enough about quilting that my younger sister has stared and since my older sister has retired she is going to start making quilts she says.
    Happy sewing Pat

  14. I was a twin and my twin brother and I were the oldest. have a younger brother and two younger sisters. I was their sitter and wish we could have been closer. We do get together every three years at a family reunion. My own four girls and two boys are closer in age and work together like a team. Three of my daughters married men with only brothers. As for my sons, they really know how to get along with women and can cook and sew with the best of them. Grand kids are even ... four and four.
