Quilters' Book Club Selection for October and Winners!

Do you love to quilt AND love to read?  I invite you to join the free, online Quilters' Book Club.  Each month, we read a book, discuss it through comments on my blog posts, and then make a quilt block to represent that book.  I research several potential blocks to go with the book's themes, setting, main characters, and events.  And I find the patterns free on the internet, making it easy for everyone to access.  Each member can choose the block or blocks they'd like to make.

To join, become a follower of my blog so you won't miss any blog post.  To make it super convenient, you can also sign up for my posts to be delivered right to you via email.  It is never too late to join and begin reading and sewing along with us.

Our book to read and discuss during October 2013 is State Fair: a Benni Harper Mystery by Earlene Fowler.  Get the book from your local library or bookstore and join us!

"Folk art museum curator, rancher, and sometime sleuth Benni Harper returns with a long-awaited new mystery that has her attending the San Celina Mid-State Fair-a place for caramel apples and 4-H calves, colorful quilts and homemade jams, and maybe just a little murder..."  from Good Reads

"For Benni, the annual San Celina Mid-State Fair is a much anticipated break in her normal routine of overseeing museum exhibits, temperamental artists and stubborn cattle. This year there is a special showing of traditional African American quilts. When the exhibit's main attraction--a replica of a story quilt made by historical quilting icon Harriet Powers--is stolen, Benni suspects it is more than mere thievery.

"Benni soon learns that underneath the fun, the fair has become a focal point for certain people who are angry at his year's choice for fair manager, Levi Clark. And when the theft leads to a cold-blooded murder, Benni will have to search through a crazy quilt of of clues to discover who in San Celina's seemingly idyllic society is really a wolf in sheep's clothing..."

  7. Just checked it out from the library. I haven't read any Benni Harper novels in a while, and I'm already about 1/3 of the way through. She's always into something. Typical Benni!

  11. This is the first of Fowler's books for me. I confess that when I read that it was a mystery I thought perhaps we weren't reading a quilt themed book but as I'm getting into the book I see the connection...."Someone's stolen the Harriet Powers quilt."

  16. This is my first Benni Harper book and I am enjoying it. I do wish there was a picture of the stolen quilt for everyone to see. I have a quilt book that has the original quilt in it. I have drooled and drooled some more over the picture in my book of that quilt and I am tempted to try to make a similar quilt.
