Lover's Knot Quilt Block for My Curl Up with a Good Book Quilt

Each Friday, I'm posting a block of my Curl Up with a Good Book Quilt, which I'm making as part of the online Quilters' Book Club.  This Lover's Knot quilt block represents the book The Lover's Knot by Clare O'Donohue, which we read and discussed in June 2013.

In the Quilters' Book Club, we read and discuss a quilt novel each month and then make a quilt block to represent each book.  I have long admired red and white quilts so decided to keep it simple and go with just two fabrics, Kona Snow and Kona Rich Red, for my blocks.  I found the pattern online at Quilters Cache here.  I also found it in BlockBase, the CD-Rom version of Barbara Brackman's Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns.  In BlockBase, it's called Love Knot, and the source is The Romance of the Patchwork Quilt in America by Carrie Hall and Rose G. Kretsinger, 1935.

In October, we're reading and discussing State Fair: a Benni Harper Mystery by Earlene Fowler.  Grab this book from your local library or bookstore and join the free, online Quilters' Book Club for our monthly book discussion and sew-along.

  1. I really like Foyle's war on PBS. Their other mystery shows are fun to watch, too.

  2. My favorite sleuth is Precious Ramotswe, owner of the #1 Ladies Detective Agency. She relies on women's intuition and common sense to solve mysteries for people. The series is written by Alexander McCall-Smith and is set in Botswana.

  3. Mrs Pollifax. My father started me reading them when they would come out in the Readers Digest condensed books. I turned my son's on to them, and, we all love Mrs P. She's so fun and 'Unexpected'.

  4. I have just recently discovered a series called Father Brown on PBS -- I am really enjoying his somewhat interesting attitudes and the bumbling way he arrives at a solution. My close to all time favourite sleuth was the Cadfael series from about 10 years ago... Not sure why I lean toward religious as I do not believe in the doctrines or ideology of such a thing...
I must add my accolades to Precious Ramotswe of the Number One Ladies Detective Agency, too!

  5. I love watching British mysteries! In addition to the ones mentioned above I enjoy and recommend "Rosemary and Thyme," "Midsomer Murders," "Inspector Morse" and the related "Endeavor," a prequels, and "Inspector Lewis," the sequel. Also "Inspector Lynley," "Silk" (new this season), all of the "Agatha Christies" (all the Marples, Poirot, etc. Dorothy L. Sayers's "Strong Poison," (Have His Carcass and Gaudy Night), the sleuth/chef "Pie in the Sky," and "George Gently." The newer British "Sherlock" and the American modern Sherlock, "Elementary," is fun. Lots of good (and not too gruesome) shows to stitch (and paint) with! Thanks for asking, Susan.

  7. I love so many mystery series in books, but my all-time favorite 'sleuth' is Amelia Peabody in mysteries by Elizabeth Peters. These take place in (mostly) Egypt in the early 1900's and are very good mysteries and funny! Peabody is a very strong woman for her day.
