An Interview with Author Marie Bostwick and a Free Broken Hearts Mending Quilt Pattern

Writer's Block Quilt Block

I'm a teacher at an elementary school and am always curious how authors got their start in writing.  I see a 4th grader who loves to write and wonder if I'll be reading her book someday.  Check out a humorous interview of Marie Bostwick by her friend and fellow writer Cathy Lamb to see how Marie got her start.  You can also see a few of her quilts: http://cathylamb.org/2013/03/author-interview-marie-bostwick/.

And if you sign up (it's free) to become a Reading Friend on Marie's website, you can download a Broken Hearts Mending quilt pattern inspired by her book A Single Threadhttp://mariebostwick.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=18&Itemid=43

Do you write letters or emails, keep a journal, or write a blog?  Do you love to write or do you hate to?  Inquiring minds what to know!  Answer in the comments section below.

  1. I used to be a good letter writer, but I've become lax. I do try to keep in touch with friends and family via email - but nothing beats reading the hand written word - several times if you want!! I do keep a journal - but do not write in it regularly. I do jot down my "events" in a engagement calendar - mostly for reference. I'm an adequate writer, but don't find it easy to do. I'm always amazed at people who do write!

    1. I agree with you, Doniene, that nothing beats reading the hand written word. We have a Wee Deliver Post Office at school. Children can write letters to each other, mail it in mailboxes places in the hallway, and have them delivered by student postal workers. As one kindergartener told me, "Our favorite thing to do in this class is write letters. We just LOVE to write letters!"

  2. Oh I love writing! I write a blog and I write letters and I write at work and I write e-mails and on it goes. I am very bummed that this concussion is cramping my writing and reading style!!! I allow myself a bit of blog reading but I probably shouldn't as I often feel worse the next day. My hubby is still reading A Single Thread to me. He averages 1 or 2 chapters a day and we are only up to chapter 15. He is leaving on a week long fishing trip on Wednesday and I told him he has to finish the book before he goes. He said he might have to find a fill in reader instead. :)

    1. I can't imagine what you're going through with your concussion, Janet! I hope you are completely recovered very soon. Did your hubby find a fill in reader for you?

  3. I like to write but am a creative speller. (Actually, I have no respect for someone who can think of only one way to spell a word). The computer helps with spell check because I even type letters out of order. I am a spotty journal keeper. I have kept journals or diaries in both English and Japanese and usually with illustrations. I think I might enjoy writing children's books.

  4. I have loved reading my grandmother's diaries and think how wonderful it would be for future generations if I kept one. I start (and start again) with enthusiasm and renewed commitment but quickly become inconsistent and finally stop. Writing a blog feels so much more rewarding to me than keeping a diary. I think it's the feeling of being part of a community of quilters around the world that greatly adds to the pleasure of keeping a blog. I've been doing it for a year and a half and enjoy it more now than when I first began.
