Quilters' Book Club February Selection and a Winner!

Do you love to quilt AND love to read?  I invite you to join the free, online Quilters' Book Club.  Each month, we read a book, discuss it through comments on my blog posts, and then make a quilt block to represent that book.  I research several potential blocks to go with the book's themes, setting, main characters, and events.  And I find the patterns free on the internet, making it easy for everyone to access.  Each member can choose the block or blocks they'd like to make.

To join, become a follower of my blog so you won't miss any blog post.  To make it super convenient, you can also sign up for my posts to be delivered right to you via email.  It is never too late to join and begin reading and sewing along with us.

Our book to read and discuss during February 2014 is Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker by Jennifer Chiaverini.  It's her first, stand-alone historical novel.  Get the book from your local library or bookstore and join us!  If you want to read it on your Kindle, you can get it here.

"In a life that spanned nearly a century and witnessed some of the most momentous events in American history, Elizabeth Hobbs Keckley was born a slave. A gifted seamstress, she earned her freedom by the skill of her needle, and won the friendship of First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln by her devotion. A sweeping historical novel, Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker illuminates the extraordinary relationship the two women shared, beginning in the hallowed halls of the White House during the trials of the Civil War and enduring almost, but not quite, to the end of Mrs. Lincoln's days." - from the author's website

  1. I have read The Quilter's Apprentice (my favorite), The Christmas Quilt, and The Union Quilters. I had never read any of her books before but now the list is growing in my "wishlist" on Amazon. LOL.

  2. Luckily, my library has almost all of her books - so I think I have read 7 so far.

  5. I know I've read Sonoma Rose because I own the book. I am sure I've read at least one other, but I am terrible with titles and I can't remember which one. And RATS. My library has Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker, but it is checked out until February 20th. And I'm leaving for Australia on the 23rd...

  8. I think I have read all of hers that I can get at library. I didn't finish her newest Mrs. Lincoln's Rival; I struggled and read half and then gave myself permission to stop and returned to library. I love Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker (read twice), so I was really disappointed with Mrs. Lincoln's Rival. I'll probably try again sometime.

  9. Just now getting around to reading this post in your blog because I've been sick this week (strep is gone now!!). I have not read ANY of Jennifer's books. I only learned about her through you and your blog. I learned about your blog through a FB quilt group we both are in. How FUN would it be IF I won!!

  10. I'm a newbie to following a blog and your Quilter's Book Club. What a great idea, thanks for the opportunity to share with others our love of reading and quilting! I've read all of her books except this one, looking forward to participating and I promised myself to make a block a month (no,really, that 8-5 job, hubby 5 grandkids and puppy will not get in my way).
