Grandmother's Own Quilt Block and Walking Wednesdays

u
Grandmother's Own Quilt Block

Walking Wednesdays is a new weekly feature of my blog, focusing on my walks and the sites that I see along the way throughout the week.  Of course, I will tie each walking adventure into a quilt block!

I had the best ever walking partners this week - my lovely daughter-in-law and my very first grandchild!  It was such a treat to get to take an after-dinner walk with them on a trail near their home.

The path is a rail-trail - a trail made from former rail lines.  Because these former tracks are flat and long and often through scenic areas, they make ideal trails for walking, biking, and even horseback riding.  "Rails-to-Trails Conservancy is a non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C., whose mission it is to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors to build healthier places for healthier people."

Do you have a rail-trail near your home?  There are more than 20,000 miles of rail-trail throughout the United States.  Click here to find trails in your state.

  1. Congratulations on becoming a Grandma. It's the best job ever! Your daughter-in-law looks so sweet and beautiful! What a terrific mom, snuggling her baby...love it.

  2. Great walk and even greater walking buddies.
All the train tracks around here are full of big noisy trains. Of course, they get me places without driving so guess I shouldn't complain. Wish my new grand-baby were that close.

  3. Mom and baby look wonderful! It won't be long before he's learning to ride a bike on those trails. So many fun times ahead for all of you. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Looking forward to this new feature & the blocks that compliment the walks! We have the Katy Trail in Dallas. Hope you can visit this trail for one of your walking Wednesdays. I know you are enjoying your precious grandchild! I am taking care of my 4th grandchild (first boy) full time. He just had his 1st birthday so I have had very little spare time to sew.

  5. Your walking trail sounds lovely & congratulations on your beautiful new grandchild. I walk with my dog most days & am fortunate to have lovely walks with river views in my home town. I also spend a couple of days a week staying on our small yacht where there are beautiful walking/riding trails along the beach.
