Our book to read and discuss during March 2013 is A Single Thread by Marie Bostwick. It's the first book in her Cobbled Court Quilts Series.

Looking forward to starting the book tonight as my husband is going out with some work colleagues. I hope more people join in with the book discussion this time. You put in a huge effort to this book club, with your researcg and posts, it would be nice to have a better response in return.
ReplyDeleteDiane, I'm glad that you've got some time for reading tonight. I'm hoping, too, that more people will participate this time. I think they will! It takes some time to get new things off the ground, but I've had a lot of fun with the book club so far.

DeleteI read this book when I found it/purchased it at Walmart when it was new. It's been awhile. I don't have the book anymore, and so I plan to sit this one out. I will be keeping up with your blog and the comments though. Enjoy!

DeleteI am sooooooo excited to part of this group!!! As I said before I ordered the book and it should be in soon! I've even decided the fabrics and layouts for the quilt. I'm going to do red work blocks, so I will pick something about the main character to stitch! I was gifted some fabric from a friend who moved, and what a great way to use some of it for a sal with fellow quilters! I appreciate all your hard work in putting this together! I'm so looking forward to the discussion!!! I will also read last month's book and put in my "two cents worth" when I finish!!

Doniene, we're so happy that you're part of the book club. And I absolutely love the idea of redwork blocks! If you see any free patterns online for redwork that would go with our monthly books, please let us know. Others might be interested in making redwork blocks, too. I think you'll enjoy The Persian Pickle Club from last month, and you are always encouraged to comment on any book, even if it's not that month's selection.
DeleteDoniene, what a lovely idea for you quilt. After reading the Persian Pickle Club, it has made me want to share fabrics with some friends in a project. With all the beautiful fabrics available to purchase today, we are spoilt for choice, but how lovely to have a special quilt to remind us of friends.
DeleteI just ordered this one from Amazon. It had an excerpt from the book and I can tell from the few pages I read that this is my kind of book. Alas, my library doesn't have it in downloadable form, my preferred method.

DeleteThanks, Mama T. I love writing them. I'm working on #6 right now, should be out in spring of 2014. But be sure to pick up a copy of BETWEEN HEAVEN AND TEXAS when it comes out on April 30. It's a prequel to the series, focuses on Mary Dell. It's a little different than the other books but I think you'll love it.

ReplyDeleteWelcome to the group! I would first check and see if your local library has the books. If not, you could try ordering the book from Amazon.com. They offer both new and used copies of books. I'm sorry, but there is no Farmer's Daughter book. It is a quilt I made using patterns from several sources. I have written a blog post about each block and always state the pattern source.

DeleteHello All--I picked up "A Single Thread" at the library yesterday and got the first four chapters read so far. I can identify with the main character already. I know I'm really going to enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteBonnie, I think Marie Bostwick is a good writer. I'm rereading the book a second time since I read the book awhile ago. I'm putting a little sticky note on certain pages so I'm better prepared for our discussion. It's so hard to go back and try to find a particular passage if you don't do this! (Don't ask me how I know!)
DeleteI finished the book yesterday morning. I enjoyed it. I won't say anymore until you post your discussion points. The book I checked out from my library had some discussion questions at the end of it.

ReplyDeleteI finished the book in two days. It is a great story of courage and faith, and an example of how love, devotion and deep friendship can develop among individuals if they will just reach out to each other. Loved it.
