If you make a block for Mary Dell, don't forget to include wild, mismatched colors (unless Howard helped her out, as usual).
ReplyDeleteAnd maybe with some wild, dangly earrings attached!
DeleteI would definitely love to spend the day with Abigail! No nonsense, down to earth, but a heart of gold! Then Mary Dell - though she would "wear me out" pretty soon - but life would never be dull with Mary Dell around!! A great story line about real life! Touches every one who reads the book!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Susan for hosting such a fun Book Club!!
Blessings
You're welcome, Doniene. I'm having a lot of fun with it. I love hearing from quilter-readers from all over.
Deletethe world's slowest reader will have to spend a bit more time with the book. At this point, I would pick Marie Bostwick! I think she would understand even me.
ReplyDeleteYou're also a busy, busy person, Julie. There's no rush, no date due, and no book report either! I would love to spend a day with Marie, too!
DeleteWell, I would have to say all of them. Each woman in the story has some of me in them and some of who I want to be. Marie Bostwick did an excellent job bringing each character to life.
ReplyDeleteIt would be fun to go to Cobbled Court Quilts and sew and visit with all of them, wouldn't it! I'd also love for Mary Dell and Howard to be there. Charlie could drop by with some of his delicious food for all of us!
DeleteWhat a wonderful book this is, I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series. I can't possibly choose only one character to meet, they are all lovely. It would to so nice if we could visit Cobbled Court Quilts to stitch with them all!
ReplyDeleteWe could all show up on a Friday night and quilt with them! Maybe Evelyn would give us a lesson!
DeleteFor different reasons, I'd love to have a day with each of them.
ReplyDeleteEvelyn, for her courage to move halfway across the country, ALONE, knowing not a soul, then opening such a personal endeavor as a quilt shop. Plus, then having the diagnosis she did and dealing with that in unfamiliar territory. Whew!
Abigail, for her connection to so many people, yet her complete personal/emotional disconnect from all of them, including the one who knew her best, Franklin.
Mary Dell, her loving, flamboyant, positive, unflappable attitude.
Oh shoot, I'd just love to spend a day with them all.
I loved this book 3 years ago on my first read and it's that much better seeing "old friends" in the characters, second time around.
My students are always amazed when I tell them that I often read good books more than once!
DeleteMy husband is reading this book aloud to me in the evenings. So far we are up to chapter 8 I believe so I haven't met all these characters yet. I would probably pick Lisa at this point because - I'm a social worker and this girl obviously needs someone to take her under their wing.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy that you're feeling better, Janet. Continue to take care of yourself. How wonderful that your husband is reading aloud to you!
DeleteI'm really enjoying this book and would welcome meeting any of the characters, because they all have their own ways to support another person. I like Charlie supporting Evelyn, and I'm enjoying seeing Abigail unravel, layer by layer. Liza is finding her niche, & I'm feeling good that some of the characters are learning to get outside their own boxes. HAPPY SPRING!
ReplyDeleteI would pick Mary Dell. Sounds like my kind of woman. When she sees a friend needing help, she pulls out all the stops and gets it done. Don't even try to get in her way. I've always had a lot of empathy for free spirits and I feel most comfortable around these individuals.
ReplyDeleteSuch great characters in this book, as others have stated I can't wait to read more in the series. I would love to meet Abigail and find out how she feels about how quilting changed her life. Love the Sister Star block, I will definitely have to make it.
