Burp Cloths Made from Cloth Diapers


I've begun my very first grandma sewing!  I made these burp cloths for my grandson who's due in May. 


First, I bought a 10 pack of Gerber prefold premium 6-ply cloth diapers at Target.  Then I washed and dried them four times, using hot water and a hot dryer, so they would shrink as much as possible.


Next, I went to my stash to find some colorful fabrics that I think my son and daughter-in-law would like.

I experimented with making different kinds of burp cloths, just using cloth diapers and pre-washed fabric from my stash.  They were simple and fun to make.  I'm curious to see which type the parents will find most useful.

    What a great way to spruce up those plain diapers for the burp cloths. Great job!

      Thank you, Annmarie. I had fun choosing the different fabric combinations from my fabric stash. And I am very excited about becoming a grandma!

    A coming grandchild is causing a lot of motion here as well. In Japan they make long narrow towels to use for washing but I'll bet they would look nice with a bit of fabric trim. Great idea.

      I love hearing from you about Japanese culture and traditions, Julie. I just used ordinary cloth diapers for burp pads when my boys were babies. The fun fabrics dress these up a bit and make them more fun.

      I too love hearing about the Japanese culture. My nephew lives in Japan and married a Japanese lady. They are pregnant now and are moving back to his home in Hawaii in July. I have baby things to make and am wanting to know more about the Japanese culture to welcome my nephews wife.

    Your hint about washing them 4 times is very important in how nice they will look later. I didn't do that and was very sorry,because they shrink up not so pretty.
