Rosebud Quilt Block and Walking Wednesdays

Rosebud Quilt Block Pattern Information

It is snowing outside once again

and I am inside, remembering a recent walk in much warmer weather

with lovely roses

in a variety of colors

as well as exotic flowers, not seen in Colorado

and wild strawberries, like we have in Colorado (just not this early!)

But the very best part of the walk was my walking buddy!
I plan on taking many more wonderful walks with him in the future!

Girl's Joy Quilt Block and Walking Wednesdays

Welcome to Walking Wednesdays and my walks taken this past week.  You might be surprised at the sights I saw on my walks:

Orange Trees

Roses

 and other beautiful flowers

including the exotic Bird of Paradise

Flowering Trees

Southern Magnolia Trees

Even a touch of fall

with crunchy leaves to walk through

from the Sweet Gum Trees

Colorful berries to look at

But the very best part of my walks this week was my walking buddy,
my seven-month-old grandson and my joy!

Starry Pines Quilt Block and Walking Wednesdays

Welcome to Walking Wednesdays and my walks taken during the past two weeks around my neighborhood.  Even though we've had some beautiful fall weather, you can tell we're heading towards winter.

Naughtumn
The trees are bare.
The birds have flown.
What’s going to grow
This year has grown.
The leaves fall down
And then get burned,

As autumn slowly gets winturned.

by Douglas Florian

The rose hips are still on the wild rose bushes, but the branches are bare.

The aspen trees have lost their leaves.

The leaves of the Scrub Oak trees have all turned brown,

and many of the leaves have fallen off the trees.

This Scrub Oak leaf clings tenaciously to its branch!
It's wonderful to see the evergreens amid all the brown!
Berries of the Rocky Mountain Juniper

with its reddish-brown, shreddy bark

Ponderosa Pine needles

Douglas Fir with pinecones

Are you heading towards winter where you live or are you still in the middle of autumn?  Inquiring minds want to know!  Please answer in the comment section below.

Maple Leaf Quilt Block and Walking Wednesdays

Maple Leaf Quilt Block

Welcome to Walking Wednesdays and my walks taken during the past two weeks around my neighborhood.  The autumn color made my walks a delight!

The wild rose hips with their yellow foliage.

Gambel oaks with their brown fall leaves.
These leaves stay on the trees well into winter.
Gambel oaks are also known as Scrub oaks around here.
They are a variety of small, shrubby oaks.

These Gambel oak leaves are in the process of turning.
Don't they look interesting?

The color of these Gambel oak leaves are unusual.
Look at the leaf that is mostly red with definite bits of yellow!

This Rocky Mountain Maple leaf got caught in the branches of a Douglas fir!

And the lovely golden leaves of the Quaking Aspen -
always a favorite!

Thank you for coming on these fall walks with me around my neighborhood!

Welcome to My Cabin Quilt and Walking Wednesdays

Welcome to My Cabin Quilt

Walking Wednesdays takes place in my neighborhood this week.

I notice signs of a lingering summer.

The flowers are definitely past their prime,
but they still add bright spots to my walks.

I also see definite signs of an approaching fall.

The green acorns of mid-summer are now dark brown.

The rose hips are a rich red.

A few of the scrub oak leaves are starting to turn yellow.

I discover a spot of yellow high in a cottonwood tree,

The leaves of an aspen tree are tinged with yellow.

And I notice the effects of the heavy rains we've received recently.

Mushrooms are popping up.

Bright green moss is on the rocks.

And the pond that was completely dry for most of the summer is now full.

Thank you for joining me in my walks this week!  If you'd like to also read my previous blog post, click here.
