Dr Pepper BBQ Sauce Recipe and Wouldn't You Like to Be a Pepper, Too?

Member Mary Ann's Dr Pepper BBQ Sauce Recipe
1/2 onion, minced
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 cups Dr Pepper
1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
1/3 cup cider vinegar
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
1 pinch salt

1.  Mince onions and add them to a medium-sized pot with oil over medium heat.  Cook until onions are soft.
2.  Add Dr Pepper and tomato sauce and bring to a simmer.
3.  Add other ingredients and stir.
4.  Simmer BBQ sauce, stirring frequently until sauce reaches desired consistency.  Depending on your taste, that could be 60-90 minutes.  I like mine a bit on the thicker side.
5.  Be sure to taste it near the end and season with salt or adjust any other flavors that you want more of (vinegar, for example).

A big Texas thank you to Mary Ann for this recipe!

The most popular snack foods in Texas are Frito pie (a bag of Fritos mixed with chili, onions, and cheese eaten straight from the bag), peanuts in Dr Pepper, beef jerky, jalapenos, and corn dogs?  Have you ever eaten any of these snack foods?  What is your favorite snack food?  Inquiring minds want to know!  By commenting, you are entering your name in a giveaway of a fabulous prize pack containing Wedding Ring, Endless Chain, Lover’s Knot (first three books of the Shenandoah Album Series) and Mountain Away, all by Emilie Richards - courtesy of Harlequin!

  1. My favorite snack food is potato chips. I love Lays with ridges, just the right amount of salt and crunch.

  2. I like corn dogs with mustard. My favorite snack food is popcorn-air popped with a little butter and salt.

  3. It's difficult to live in Texas without having had all of the above foods. I love frito chili pie in the winter. My favorite snack food is popcorn since I prepare it in a way that makes it fairly guilt free.

  4. Thanks for posting the BBQ Sauce recipe. In all fairness I want to share that the source of the recipe was the Macheesmo blog written by a fellow from Colorado. Here's a link to the blog: http://www.macheesmo.com/. You might find some other recipes interesting, too. (I just pinned one for Browned Butter Zucchini Bread!)

  5. I have eaten all of those foods here in Georgia. I don't think it's a Texas thing??? One of my friends makes Frito Pie Casserole at least once a month. You just put it all in a casserole dish instead of eating it out of the bag.

Gosh for a favorite snack, that all depends on the mood I am in at the time. Sometimes it's chocolate and sometimes it's Jalapeno Bombers and sometimes Hummus with pita chips and on and on. LOL!

  6. The absolute best corn dogs are the ones from the state fair of Texas! They are HUGE! That was always a must have when we went to the fair. I don't do fresh jalapeno's, but, jar jalapeno's are great on nachos. I ate all the rest all the time, and still do (tho in less amounts due to the calorie content). Oh yea, I just finished some chips and hot sauce for my snack. In Texas, we get fresh hot sauce and chips (Julio's brand). My son had better bring some back when he goes to Texas next month.

  7. I have lived in Texas for 31 years. My favorite snack foods would be one that are salty (tortilla chips and salsa) or sweet (chocolate is a favorite).

  11. All my Scouting friends know I like Fritos but can't get them here, so are often slipping me a snack bag. Probably I would chose nuts and dried fruit as my favorite snack or meal substitute.

  12. Satisfying snacks are cut up veggies or small amounts of mixtures of raw nuts & seeds (sometimes on a salad). I have to say that these are very different choices than the ones I made several years ago, but I feel so much better!
